Toe Deformities
Toe deformities can cause pain, irritation, and difficulty wearing shoes. The most frequent types include hammertoes, claw toes, and mallet toes which all involve abnormal bending at the toe joints. These deformities may be caused by genetics, muscle imbalance, arthritis, or long-term pressure from footwear.
Hammertoes typically affect the second toe and occur when the middle joint becomes bent, leading to corns, calluses, or open sores. Over time, the joint can become stiff and painful, even while walking or at rest.
Treatment for Toe Deformities
At Collective Footcare and Orthotics, our Chiropodists offer both conservative and surgical treatment options for toe deformities. Non-surgical treatments may include custom footwear modifications, offloading padding, and orthotics to reduce pressure. For cases that do not improve with conservative care, we may recommend a tenotomy which is a minimally invasive in-office procedure that releases the tight tendon causing the deformity.
Tenotomies are quick, require little downtime, and can provide long-term relief by straightening the affected toe.
If you’re dealing with painful or progressive toe deformities, our team can help restore comfort and function with a personalized treatment plan.
